Heathen

Ásatrú faith practitioner

Heathen originally meant someone from the heath—the rural countryside—and came to denote a person who doesn't follow one of the major monotheistic religions, especially Christianity.

The word carries connotations of paganism or irreligion: missionaries sent to convert the heathens.

In casual use, heathen describes someone uncultured or morally unrestrained: Were you raised by heathens?

The adjective describes beliefs or practices outside accepted religion: heathen rituals.
