Woden
Wednesday's divine namesake
Woden is the Anglo-Saxon name for the chief god of Norse mythology, known elsewhere as Odin—god of war, wisdom, poetry, and the dead.
The name survives in Wednesday, originally "Woden's day." Woden appears occasionally in fantasy literature and discussions of Germanic paganism.
