Esso

Initials became brand

Esso is a brand name for petroleum products, particularly gasoline, used by ExxonMobil in various countries.

The name derives from the initials S.O. for Standard Oil.

In the United States, antitrust restrictions led the company to rebrand as Exxon, but Esso remains the primary brand in much of Europe, Asia, and elsewhere: We stopped at an Esso station to fill up.
