East River

Brooklyn-Queens waterway border

The East River is a tidal strait in New York City separating Manhattan from Brooklyn and Queens.

Despite its name, it's not technically a river but a saltwater channel connecting Upper New York Bay to Long Island Sound.

The Brooklyn Bridge spans the East River.

The waterway appears constantly in discussions of New York geography and real estate.
