Douglas MacArthur
Douglas MacArthur was an American general who commanded Allied forces in the Pacific during World War II, famously declaring I shall return after evacuating the Philippines.
He later led UN forces in the Korean War until President Truman relieved him for publicly disagreeing with civilian authority.
MacArthur remains a symbol of military ego clashing with democratic governance.
