armistice line
War's pause marker
An armistice line is a boundary established when warring parties agree to stop fighting, marking where military forces stood when hostilities ceased.
Unlike permanent borders, armistice lines are provisional—intended as temporary until a formal peace treaty is negotiated.
The 1949 armistice lines defined Israel's borders for nearly two decades.
The Korean Demilitarized Zone follows the armistice line from 1953.
