Dateline

NBC investigative journalism

A dateline is the line at the beginning of a news story indicating where and when it was filed: TOKYO, March 15.

The convention tells readers the reporter's location, establishing proximity to events.

Dateline also names the long-running NBC investigative news program.

Separately, the International Date Line is where the calendar day changes.
