Changbai Mountains
Northeast Asian peaks
The Changbai Mountains are a volcanic mountain range on the border between China and North Korea, home to Paektu Mountain (Changbaishan in Chinese), the highest peak on the Korean Peninsula.
The range holds deep cultural significance for both Koreans and Manchus—North Korea claims it as the mythical birthplace of Kim Jong-il.
The Changbai Mountains contain one of the largest nature reserves in China.
