Mukden Incident
Railway explosion scheme
The Mukden Incident was a 1931 staged explosion on a Japanese-owned railway near Mukden (now Shenyang), China.
Japanese military officers planted the bomb themselves, then blamed Chinese dissidents as a pretext to invade Manchuria.
The event marked Japan's first major act of expansion leading to World War II.
Also called the Manchurian Incident.
