Canadian Pacific Railway
Historic northern railroad
The Canadian Pacific Railway is a historic transcontinental railroad completed in 1885, linking eastern Canada to British Columbia.
Its construction was a condition of British Columbia joining Canadian confederation.
The railway opened the Canadian west to settlement and commerce, becoming central to Canadian national identity.
Now Canadian Pacific Kansas City after a 2023 merger, it remains a major North American freight carrier.
