CAR-T therapy
Engineered immune treatment
CAR-T therapy is a cancer treatment that reprograms a patient's own immune cells to attack tumors.
T cells are extracted from the patient's blood, genetically modified in a laboratory to produce chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) on their surface, then infused back into the patient.
These engineered cells can now recognize and destroy specific cancer cells.
The therapy has shown remarkable success against certain blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, though it can cause severe side effects including cytokine release syndrome.
