Britannia metal

Tin-based metal substitute

Britannia metal is a pewter-like alloy of tin, antimony, and copper, used for tableware, teapots, and decorative objects.

Developed in the 18th century as a cheaper alternative to silver, it can be polished to a similar shine: The candlesticks were Britannia metal, not sterling.
