B-cell

Marrow-derived immune cell

A B-cell is a type of white blood cell that produces antibodies as part of the immune response.

B-cells originate in bone marrow and circulate in blood and lymph, recognizing specific foreign substances and generating antibodies to neutralize them.

Also called B-lymphocyte.

The B originally referred to the bursa of Fabricius, an organ in birds where these cells were first identified.
