Ariadne

Cretan princess, abandoned

Ariadne is a figure from Greek mythology, daughter of King Minos of Crete, who helped Theseus escape the Labyrinth by giving him a ball of thread to trace his path back after slaying the Minotaur.

The name appears in astronomy (an asteroid), psychology (as a symbol of guidance through complexity), and occasionally as a given name.

An Ariadne's thread is any logical method for solving a complex problem.
