Minotaur

Bull-headed maze prisoner

The Minotaur is the bull-headed monster of Greek mythology, offspring of Pasiphaë and a bull sent by Poseidon.

King Minos imprisoned it in the Labyrinth beneath Crete, where it devoured Athenian youths until the hero Theseus navigated the maze and slew it.

The creature symbolizes the monstrous and the hidden—what civilizations confine but cannot destroy. (Lowercase minotaur refers to the creature type in fantasy settings.)
