Phaistos Disc

Undeciphered clay disc

The Phaistos Disc is a fired clay disk from ancient Crete, dating to around 1700 BCE, covered on both sides with stamped symbols arranged in a spiral.

Despite over a century of study, its script remains undeciphered and its purpose unknown—a famous unsolved puzzle of archaeology.

Found at the Minoan palace of Phaistos in 1908.
