Americano
Diluted espresso drink
An Americano is espresso diluted with hot water, producing a milder coffee than straight espresso while retaining its characteristic flavor.
The drink appears on virtually every coffee shop menu: One large Americano, please.
The name supposedly comes from American GIs in Italy who preferred their coffee less intense. (Lowercase americano is the same drink in informal usage.)
