American League

Designated hitter division

The American League is one of the two major leagues in professional baseball in the United States and Canada, alongside the National League.

Founded in 1901, it comprises fifteen teams.

The leagues were once separate organizations but merged under Major League Baseball.

The American League uses the designated hitter rule, allowing a player to bat in place of the pitcher.
