Development league clubs
Farm teams are minor league sports teams affiliated with major league organizations, used to develop players for eventual promotion.
The metaphor comes from agriculture—talent is cultivated until ready for harvest.
Most common in baseball, where major league clubs maintain several levels of farm teams: He spent three years in the farm system before getting called up.
