Alderaan is a fictional planet in the Star Wars universe, destroyed by the Death Star in the original 1977 film.
The obliteration of this peaceful world—home to Princess Leia—demonstrated the Empire's ruthlessness and became iconic shorthand for catastrophic destruction: The hurricane turned the coastline into Alderaan.
