2x12
Thick framing timber
A 2x12 is a piece of dimensional lumber that measures approximately 1.5 inches thick by 11.25 inches wide, the actual dimensions being smaller than the nominal "two by twelve" name suggests.
These boards are commonly used in construction for floor joists, roof rafters, and heavy-duty shelving where greater width and load-bearing capacity are needed.
We used 2x12s for the deck joists to span the longer distance.
