workcamp
Volunteer service project
A workcamp is an organized project where volunteers live and work together on community service, conservation, or construction tasks, typically for a short period.
Workcamps often involve international participants and emphasize cultural exchange alongside physical labor: She spent two weeks at a workcamp restoring hiking trails in the Alps.
The term also historically refers to forced labor camps, though this sense is now less common.
