wine steward

Restaurant grape guide

A wine steward is a restaurant employee responsible for the wine service—maintaining the wine list, advising guests on pairings, and presenting and serving bottles at the table.

The formal term is sommelier, though wine steward remains common in American usage: The wine steward recommended a Burgundy with the lamb.
