wax sealing

Letter closure method

Wax sealing is the practice of securing or decorating documents and envelopes with melted wax impressed with a stamp or signet.

Historically, wax seals authenticated letters and prevented tampering—a broken seal meant someone had opened it.

Today wax sealing survives mainly as decorative craft for invitations, stationery, and gifts: She learned wax sealing for her wedding invitations.
