wave breaker

Surge-stopping sea structure

A wave breaker is a structure built to reduce the force of incoming waves, protecting harbors, shorelines, or beaches from erosion and storm damage.

These barriers—typically made of concrete, rock, or rubble—absorb or deflect wave energy before it reaches the coast.

Also called a breakwater or seawall, though each has slightly different engineering designs.
