warmbloods
European riding breeds
Warmbloods are a category of horse breeds developed by crossing hot-blooded horses (like Arabians and Thoroughbreds) with cold-blooded draft horses.
The term refers to temperament and breeding, not body temperature.
Warmbloods are prized in competitive equestrian sports—dressage, show jumping, eventing—for combining the athleticism of hot-bloods with the calm disposition of cold-bloods: She competes on a Dutch Warmblood.
