half-pass
Lateral dressage movement
A half-pass is a dressage movement in which a horse moves forward and sideways simultaneously, crossing its legs while bent slightly in the direction of travel.
The horse advances diagonally across the arena while remaining nearly parallel to the rail: Her half-pass across the centerline was fluid and balanced.
The movement demonstrates collection, suppleness, and the rider's control over lateral motion.
