studbook
Pedigree documentation volume
A studbook is an official registry recording the pedigree and breeding history of animals, especially horses, dogs, and cattle.
Organizations that maintain studbooks use them to verify lineage and ensure breed standards, making them essential for purebred registration.
The mare's impressive studbook entry traced her bloodline back five generations.
Animals documented in a studbook are said to be "registered" and typically command higher prices than unregistered ones of the same breed.
