No-lift living spaces
Walkups are apartments or buildings without elevators, requiring residents to climb stairs to reach upper floors: It's a fifth-floor walkup, so I get my exercise.
The term also describes customers who arrive without appointments or reservations: The restaurant takes walkups after 9 p.m.
In both senses, the word emphasizes arriving on foot rather than by mechanical or scheduled means.
