volcanic rocks
Solidified molten earth
Volcanic rocks are rocks formed from cooled lava or volcanic ash.
They include basalt, pumice, and obsidian, distinguished by texture and cooling speed—rapid cooling produces fine-grained or glassy rock, while slower cooling allows larger crystals to form.
The Hawaiian islands are built almost entirely of volcanic rocks.
