soil amendment

Garden bed additive

A soil amendment is any material added to soil to improve its physical or chemical properties, such as drainage, water retention, or nutrient content.

Common amendments include comite, peat moss, gypsum, and manure.

Unlike fertilizers, which primarily add nutrients, amendments focus on improving soil structure and growing conditions.

The clay soil in my garden needed serious amendment before anything would grow.
