virions
Infectious viral units
Virions are individual virus particles—the complete, infectious form of a virus as it exists outside a host cell.
Each virion consists of genetic material (DNA or RNA) wrapped in a protein coat, sometimes with an outer envelope.
Millions of virions can be released when an infected cell bursts.
The singular is virion.
