upsold

Convinced to upgrade

Upsold is the past tense of upsell—to persuade a customer to buy something more expensive or additional: I went in for basic cable and got upsold to the premium package.

The technique is standard in sales, from fast food (Would you like fries with that? ) to car dealerships pushing extended warranties.
