talked down

Dismissed with superiority

Talked down has two main senses.

To talk someone down is to calm them during a crisis—talking a person off a ledge, or through a panic attack.

It also means to speak condescendingly: He talked down to her like she was a child.

In negotiation, to talk down a price is to reduce it through persuasion.
