tympanic
Relating to drums
Tympanic means relating to the eardrum or the middle ear cavity: tympanic membrane, tympanic cavity.
The word comes from the same root as timpani drums—both involve a stretched membrane that vibrates.
In anatomy, tympanic structures are those associated with hearing and sound transmission.
