trumpeter swan
Honking white giant
The trumpeter swan is the largest native North American waterfowl, with wingspans reaching eight feet.
Named for its resonant, trumpet-like call, it has pure white plumage and a black bill.
Once nearly extinct from hunting, populations have recovered through conservation efforts.
A pair of trumpeter swans nested on the lake.
