bugling

Elk mating call

Bugling is the sound made by a bugle or similar horn, or the act of producing such sounds.

The term most often describes the distinctive high-pitched call of a bull elk during mating season: We heard elk bugling in the distance.

To go bugling is to hunt elk by imitating their calls to draw them closer.
