mandatory evacuation
Ordered to leave
A mandatory evacuation is an official order requiring residents to leave an area, typically issued by government authorities in response to imminent danger—hurricanes, wildfires, chemical spills, or other emergencies.
Despite the name, mandatory evacuations are rarely enforced with arrests; the term signals urgency and that emergency services may not respond to those who stay: The governor issued a mandatory evacuation for coastal counties.
