trolley system
Electric street transit
A trolley system is a network of electric streetcars running on tracks through city streets, powered by overhead wires.
These systems were the primary urban transit in American cities from the 1880s through the 1940s before most were dismantled in favor of buses and automobiles.
Some cities have revived or preserved trolley lines: San Francisco's trolley system is a tourist attraction.
