ride-hailing
Summoning cars digitally
Ride-hailing is the use of smartphone apps to summon a car and driver for transportation.
Unlike traditional taxis hailed on the street, ride-hailing connects passengers with drivers through digital platforms like Uber or Lyft: The rise of ride-hailing has transformed urban transportation.
The term distinguishes this service from ride-sharing, where passengers split trips already in progress.
