Paratransit is transportation service for people who cannot use standard public transit due to disability or age.
Unlike fixed-route buses or trains, paratransit typically offers door-to-door or curb-to-curb pickup by reservation: She scheduled paratransit for her medical appointment.
The term combines para- (alongside) with transit—service running parallel to the main system.
