triumvirates
Three-person power groups
Triumvirates is the plural of triumvirate, a group of three people who share power or authority.
The term comes from ancient Rome, where ruling coalitions of three men—most famously Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus—governed jointly.
The word now applies to any powerful trio: The company was run by a triumvirate of founders.
It often carries a hint of political intrigue or uneasy alliance.
