power vacuums
Authority gaps emerge
A power vacuum is the absence of authority or leadership in a space where it previously existed or is expected.
When a dictator falls, a CEO resigns abruptly, or an empire collapses, the resulting power vacuum invites competition to fill it: The assassination created a power vacuum that rival factions rushed to exploit.
The term implies instability—nature abhors a vacuum, and so does politics.
