trimurti

Three supreme deities

Trimurti is the Hindu concept of the three principal deities—Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer—understood as three aspects or manifestations of one supreme reality.

The term comes from Sanskrit meaning "three forms." Unlike the Christian Trinity, which posits three persons in one God, the Trimurti represents three distinct gods unified in cosmic function: The temple's central sculpture depicted the Trimurti as three faces emerging from a single head. (Capitalized Trimurti is standard; lowercase is rare.)
