transportation networks
How people move
Transportation networks are systems of interconnected routes and infrastructure that move people and goods from place to place.
Roads, railways, airways, and shipping lanes form networks, as do the vehicles, hubs, and logistics that keep them running.
Urban planners study transportation networks to optimize traffic flow: The city's transportation network is overwhelmed during rush hour.
The term also applies to transit systems: buses, subways, and commuter rail operating as an integrated whole.
