edge banding

Plywood edge covering

Edge banding is a thin strip of material—wood veneer, plastic, or melamine—applied to the exposed edges of plywood, particleboard, or other manufactured wood products.

It conceals the layered or rough core, giving furniture and cabinetry a finished appearance: The carpenter applied oak edge banding to match the tabletop.

Also called edge tape or edging.
