torpedo tubes
Warship launching cylinders
Torpedo tubes are cylindrical launch mechanisms on warships and submarines that fire torpedoes into the water.
They may be mounted above or below the waterline, with submarine tubes designed to function at depth under pressure.
The tubes aim the weapon and use compressed air or other systems to eject it before its own propulsion engages: The captain ordered all forward torpedo tubes loaded.
