gun turrets
Swiveling weapon platforms
Gun turrets are rotating armored structures that house and protect weapons, allowing them to aim and fire in multiple directions.
Found on warships, tanks, and military aircraft, they typically contain one or more large guns along with the mechanisms needed to aim and fire them.
The turret's ability to rotate independently of the vessel or vehicle it's mounted on gives it a wide field of fire.
The battleship's main gun turrets could swivel to engage targets on either side.
