naval mines

Underwater explosive traps

Naval mines are explosive devices placed in water to damage or destroy ships and submarines.

They may detonate on contact, respond to magnetic signatures, or detect acoustic or pressure changes from passing vessels.

Unlike depth charges, mines are stationary—laid in shipping lanes, harbors, or coastal waters to create defensive barriers or deny enemy access.
