guidance system

Automated steering mechanism

A guidance system is a device or set of components that steers something toward a target or along a planned path.

The term applies most often to missiles, rockets, and spacecraft: The missile's guidance system locked onto the heat signature.

Guidance systems may use GPS, inertial navigation, radar, or other technologies to make continuous course corrections.
